Welcome to SCIS & ISIS 2004, Yokohama, Japan

On behalf of the organizing committee, it is our pleasure to welcome all delegates, representatives and participants from all around the world to the 2nd International Conference on Soft Computing and Intelligent Systems (SCIS) and the 5th International Symposium on Advanced Intelligent Systems (ISIS). This is the 2nd joint conference following the first joint conference held in Tsukuba, 2002.

Yokohama is a big port city close to Tokyo. Since the opening of its port in 1859, it has been a gateway of Japan to the rest of the world and a hub for intercultural exchange. The center of Yokohama is not big and can be enjoyed easily: there are many attractive areas such as Minato Mirai 21 area, Chinatown, in addition to port area. A number of famous attractive areas such as Kamakura, a historic city and ancient capital, like Kyoto, Hakone area, and even Mt.Fuji and Nikko are not far from Yokohama.

As you can see, the areas the joint conference cover various interesting topics in the field of soft computing, intelligent systems and their related areas including fuzzy systems, neural networks, evolutionary computation, artificial intelligence, control, robotics, vision, design, etc.

We do hope that the conference will highly be successful and fruitful to all participants and that you will fully enjoy the conference in both its technical and social aspects.

We appreciate all contributions and cooperation by the committee members, sponsoring societies and organizations, and supporting industries towards the success of the conference. Especially, we acknowledge the Asahi Glass Foundation and Keio University for their support.
